Hiking in Hong Kong
8:30am, 1st November, 2010. CAS week started. We took our bulky and heavy bags to the bus. And we were all excited, we were going on a 5 day trip. 2 days in a camp. and 3 days in the wild. I sat down on the bus. I was busy chatting with my friends and we talked about our expectation for this trip. Thirty minutes pasted and I looked out the window. I saw lush green tree on both sides of the road. The sky was all blue, no clouds, t nothing.
Another 30 minutes past and we finally reached the drop off location. We meet our guides. They too carried bags like us, but bigger and heavier ones. We walked to the camp. The walk was fantastic. We walked right beside a very long beach. It’s sand was golden and the water was crystal clear. We walked and walked. When we reached the camp, we had sandwiches for lunch.
In the two days we sent in camp, we did a lot of activities. Kayaking was one of them. I love kayaking despite I don’t kayak much. The water there was clean. (but very salty) We paddle and paddle until we reached a small beach separated from the main beach by a lot of rocks. We play fun games and we had a very happy time although I was shaking mad in the cold.
We also hiked. We hiked up and down mountains. I and Joey volunteered to push the car that holds the equipment for forestry. I and Joey pushed and pushed until we reached our destination. We got some wired nets and we surrounded some plants with it. So did that to make sure the plants grow straight up.
After staying at camp, we went to the wild. It was a little camp site near the beach. Often, you will see cows walking on the beach. And the waves there were big which made me exited. The first activity we did when we finished putting up our tent, was to go swimming. We changed and we rushed to the beach. Me, Owen and Ian sticked together as we get battered by multiple waves. We just rush to a wave like a crazy guy and we let it hit us. Soon, I was getting cold. So I got my got out of the water.
After a tiring day, we had dinner. We had tomato sauce with spaghetti. Honestly, I tasted quite bad (it was sour) but what do you expect for a dinner in the wild. So I ate as much as I can and I went to bed.
The next day, we went to a canyon. We climbed rocks and we stepped over streams. 20 minutes later, we reached our destination. It was a rock wall. Most of us abseiled down the rock wall. But I and Alex Lin jumped from a rock and “cannon balled” (to save time) The first time I slipped and did not have a good feel. So I jumped a second time. I looked down. I can feel my heart beating. I was frozen. I did not dare to jump. Then I just forced myself to jump. When I was in the air, I though: “Have I gone crazy?” And a loud plunge followed.
Then the camp was over. I had a great time canyoning and kayaking. I knew more about my friends. The nature there was just amazing. Imagine every single tree you see is a person. A living thing. And then think about the cruel people in the developing countries cutting tree. It is like cutting a persons head off. It is cruel so don’t cut tree and if you could stop people from cutting trees, that would be awesome. I hope next year’s CAS week would be just as fun as this one.
